What actually wears out?
The parts that wear on an EV, and why some wear faster than on a petrol car.
You'll learn
- Understand what actually wears out?
- Know which checks an owner can do and which need a professional
- Recognise warning signs early
Overview
Weight and instant torque change how parts wear. Batteries make EVs heavier, and the electric motor delivers full torque from a standstill.
In depth
Faster wear
Tyres, suspension bushings and wheel bearings carry extra load. Hard acceleration scrubs tyres quickly.
Slower wear
Brake pads and discs do less work because regenerative braking slows the car most of the time. The downside is that brakes can rust or seize from lack of use.
Key takeaways
Remember this
- Mass and torque speed up tyre and suspension wear.
- Brakes wear less but can corrode.
- The HV battery is monitored, not serviced.
